OHA Leases
What is an OHA lease?
An OHA Lease (Overseas Housing Allowance Lease) is an agreement for housing off-base for military personnel stationed outside of the United States. The lease is supported by the Overseas Housing Allowance (OHA), which provides financial assistance to cover rent and utility costs, helping service members afford housing in their host country. Unlike on-base housing, an OHA lease allows for flexibility in choosing a home that meets the needs of the service member and their family, offering a more personalized and comfortable living arrangement while stationed abroad.
What does an OHA lease cover?
- Monthly Rent: OHA primarily covers the cost of your monthly rent, allowing you to choose suitable off-base housing that meets your family’s needs while stationed overseas.
- Utility and Recurring Maintenance Allowance: In addition to rent, OHA includes an allowance for utility costs (such as electricity, heating, water) and other recurring maintenance fees like trash services or property upkeep.
- Initial Move-In Expenses (MIHA): Military members may also receive a one-time Move-In Housing Allowance (MIHA) to help cover the initial costs of setting up a home, such as deposits, installation fees, and minor repairs.
